Having an Average Weekend
I saw the Reel Big Fish / Zebrahead / Wakefield / Matches show last weekend. The openers were pretty standard pop punk fare. Zebrahead was entertaining and I’m interested to see how they sound on record. The Fish were fantastic as always.
Next week General Rudie and Belvedere are in town. I’m still debating if which Hillside dates I want to go to (it’s a choice between Broken Social Scene on Saturday or Cuff The Duke on Sunday’ or both). The weekend following that is Warped Tour in Barrie and the Kingpins in Guelph. The summer concert season is kicking into gear’
It’s been a quiet weekend here (event wise, my stereo speakers have gotten a workout). I like the solitude of being able to wake up when I want and work on Punknews for a few hours with a good cup of coffee. My friends from back home don’t understand how I can live here ‘all by myself.’ I love it.
I’ve got my hands on two of my most anticipated releases for this year: The Constantines’ second full length ‘Shine A Light’ and Rancid’s new record ‘Indestructible.’ The new Rancid is probably their most radio friendly disc since ‘Wolves’ but has some fantastic sing-alongs on it. It’ll do well but I don’t see their Warner Bros deal making them it any bigger than it would be otherwise. The Cons new disc is brilliant as expected. It’s a deeper listen so it’s taking me a while to get into it, but it’ll grow to be one of my favourites of the year for sure.
