I’ve been listening to a lot of Green Day today. Some news on the band came down the wire, which somehow convinced me to give the Constantines album a rest. “Hitching A Ride” is a great tune.

I’ve been attentively watching the reader comments under the Punknews article I posted. The amount of positive responses to the band surprises me considering that five years ago they were the pariahs of the punk world for dragging the genre into the mainstream. I suppose all of us who were introduced to punk by Green Day are now at the age where we can influence that canon of universally respected bands. I’m looking forward to seeing how today’s crop of pop-punk bands fares in a few years when their fans have aged a bit.

I’m sore today but it’s a good pain. I participated in a Dragon Boat race yesterday in Waterloo with a team from my co-op placement. For a bunch of pudgy computer science workers, we didn’t do too bad at all. It was probably the first fun “team sport” experience I’ve had in a long, long time (my general lack of ability and interest hampering any hope I had in school-based sport teams).

I went through this weird ceremonial culling of my music collection today. I intensely stared over my shelves for a few minutes and selected the 5 albums I listen to the least. I played as much of each of them as I could tolerate and unceremoniously dumped 4 of the 5 in a box in my closet. One survived and returned to the shelf. The CDs in my closet are in a state of “sell / give away / begrudgingly keep but don’t include in collection.” Not a fun place to be.

Damn I’m weird.

I’m in vain hope that this coming week isn’t as hectic as last. It seems like my Sunday’s are the only time I really get to relax lately. I wouldn’t mind a bit more time to do so.
