Impedance: 8 ohms

I have no idea what that headline means at all.

So I’ve got this current obsession with finding all the specs on the second hand audio equipment I’m slowly aquiring from relatives. My latest find is a pair of EPI 90s.

I’ve learned (thanks to some internet sites I never though would have existed) lots of interesting info. These were apparently manufactured between `74 and `77 and “are still usually prized by their owners, who will frequently go to great lengths to repair them properly when they (rarely) develop problems.” Back in the day (before I was born mind you) these had a MSRP of $180 US back then.

I hooked them up today with some crappy gauge speaker cable I got and they sound absolutely incredible. The low range on these is amazing. I’m playing The Jam’s 20th Century Masters Collection at the moment.

From the same Aunt’s basement I found a Dual 1225 Turntable from 1973-74. It’s suggested retail price was $140 US.

Why this all interests me I have no idea. It’s a good distraction from a tough few weeks of exams I suppose.

I’ve written lots of new reviews for Punknews, go check them out.
