…with their candlesticks and compasses
I’m really not confessional enough to have a blog and I don’t feel that any of you need to know about the inane details of my life.. but I feel the need to update this regardless of having nothing of real consequence to say today. Proceed at your own risk but you obviously have something better to do.
The end of April saw the end of my second internship doing high-end tech support at a software company. I say “high-end” because I wasn’t jockeying a phone and talking to end-users, I spoke mostly to developers and other tech people on a pay-per-issue basis. I had a quite positive exit review upon leaving so it’s nice to see that the team thought I did good work. What I find funny is that everyone can recognise my ability to fake that I know what I’m talking about if the customer goes over my head (considering the depth, breadth and uses of this product that’s really a common and expected occurrence). It’s funny that the company gave me credit for, more or less, being fairly adept at deceit, bluffing and other fun aspects of social engineering.
This summer sees a return to school, which while sadly won’t allow me to flex my skills of deception, should be a nice change of pace. I’m looking forward to the summer weather and my lighter-than-usual course load. That means essentially I’ll have 30 things to do at any given moment as opposed to the usual 60. I’m hoping it plays out like the last summer I was up here, which despite all the work was an amazing time.
I caught the Ska Is Dead tour a few weeks ago and it was a ton of fun. I’ve seen The Planet Smashers countless times but they’re still such a fun live band to watch. It looks like the sun is setting on the era of shows at Guelph’s Trasheteria, which is a shame. I may not be living in the city a year from now so it makes me glad it’s been around for my University career.
Speaking of shows, I’ve got Pixies tickets for November in Toronto. It’s a long ways away but I’m quite excited.
I feel some need to write something about politics or the music industry here, but nothing’s really ticked me off any more than usual. I’m happy to see that Fat Mike’s efforts are getting some mainstream attention in the US media, but I think the amount of CBC television I watch is really waning my interesting at what’s going on down south. I’m more interested in when the Liberals are calling our own election.
Well there’s a period left in Game 6 of the Leafs / Flyers series. We’re down by two. I’ve got this feeling I’m never eating a cheese steak again…
