The Last Commute

This is of no interest to anyone but myself (yet here is it is online). My last day of a fairly significant job was last Friday. It was the most important job I’ve ever had and I was going out of my way to create these big epic “end of an era” situations for myself. “This is the final time I will ever set foot in this room” and shit like that. Too bad I don’t remember any of it, but I tend to get that way at these points in my life. As usual the trusty iPod was randomizing songs across my library as I drove to work, and I decided the selection of songs was fitting enough to actually write it down once I got to work.

So here it is, most exciting thing you’ll read all year I’m sure:

Various Artists - The Last Commute

1 - “Joining the Army” by Lucero
2 - “Trying Your Luck” by The Strokes
3 - “Keep the Living Bodies Warm” by Tangiers
4 - “The McKnight Life” by The Constantines
5 - “Cut Here” by The Cure
6 - “Mouse” by Red Animal War
7 - “Cool This Madness Down” by Common Rider
8 - “Ro-Ro Roland” by Tangiers
9 - “The Letter” by Gunmoll
10 - “Stained Glass and Marble” by Rise Against
11 - “Why Can’t I Touch It?” by Buzzcocks
12 - “Fast Train” by Solomon Burke
13 - “The Rascal King” by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones

The inclusion of two Tangiers songs breaks some primal compilation law of the universe, but we’ll let that slide since they’re both awesome songs. The last song on the list wasn’t random, it was my own choice. It was what was playing when I left my first job in high school. I spent something like three years unloading trucks at a grocery store and stacking boxes in a produce freezer. Needless to say this current job felt a tad more important. It needed to be played for continuity’s sake.

Now you’re saying to “Adam that was really fucking pointless,” and all I can say is that I told you it would be. This is me procrastinating at an advanced level.

What I’m spinning:
True North - Somewhat Similar
Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose
The Thermals - Parts Per Million
No Choice - Dry River Fishing

Man, I always work up those “it’s the last hour…” type of scenarios for myself. Then it comes, goes and I’m left going “wha’happen?”
