Audio: High Tension Wires / The Sadies

High Tension Wires feature members of The Marked Men, The Riverboat Gamblers, Reds and Chop Sakis among others. The Marked Men have been on hiatus for the past while as Jeff Burke has been going to school in Osaka, Japan, but that didn’t stop them from releasing one my favorite records of 2004 before he left. High Tension Wires seem to be much in the same spirit, and Dirtnap Records has posted the song “Smile and Lie” from the upcoming full length Send A Message.

High Tension Wires - Smile and Lie

I was aware of The Sadies as the backing band for the fabulous Neko Case before I discovered their own material. The self-described “surf, garage, country, rock” band released Favourite Colours on Outside Music / Yep Roc earlier this year. The band’s on a serious Byrds kick with songs like “Why Be So Curious.”
