Audio: Turpentine Brothers
One of the releases that’s hogging my stereo’s attention these days is the Turpentine Brothers‘ We Don’t Care About Your Good Times. The Boston based garage/punk/”dirtbag R&B” trio features Justin Hubbard of the Kings Of Nuthin’ on guitar and vocals, Tara McManus of Mr Airplane Man on drums and Zack Brines on a “vaguely Quintron-esque organ/bass keyboards set-up played through Leslie speakers.” The press release describes the record as follows:
It’s a high energy 12 songster equally inspired by the OBLIVIANS’ gospel album, thrift store 45’s bearing the Fortune, Stax, and Etiquette imprints, and the fractured guitar freakouts of their longtime faves the CHEATER SLICKS.
It’s another of a batch of decent bands lately with an unconventional line up (I’m thinking Detonations and Death From Above 1979) and it’s seriously catchy stuff. Check out these songs:
