Audio: The Agnostic Mountain Gospel Choir

I stumbled across this band in the excellent CBC Radio 3 podcast a few weeks back. The Agnostic Mountain Gospel Choir is a four piece from Calgary that plays what they describe as a “a ferocious combination of traditional blues, Appalachian folk, and ragged gospel” and I can’t quite define it better than that. On top of that, their mission statement, “to forge a kind of gospel for the unbeliever” just floors me. Perfectly sinister. Judd Palmer’s vocals have this fantastic rasp that fans of Leatherface or the No Idea stable would love. This is just excellent, excellent stuff. My copy of Fighting And Onions can’t arrive soon enough.

I’ve been listening to the CBC Radio Podcast a lot lately as well. This song you have linked reminds me of the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack. Awesome stuff. Definitely something new and different in this scene.
