Audio: The Evaporators

So while Tommy Douglas was judged the Greatest Canadian we all know the country was secretly rooting for Nardwuar the Human Serviette. I had never really sought out anything from the Evaporators (or Nard’s host of Thee bands) prior to this year, mostly because I figured it was shtick and not something musically interesting. However I’m completely blown away by the amount of pure music-nerdisms in the liner notes of Ripple Rock. Nardwuar talks about the Cardboard Brains and others, mentioning that fantastic Toronto punk artifact The Last Pogo and genuinely impresses with his enthusiasm for the early Canadian punk scene. The album’s quirky garage rock features the odd Smuggler and Pornographer, all redeeming qualities in my mind, so I’m rather dumbfounded as to why I hadn’t caught this wave earlier. Oh well.
