The Invisible Eyes are the last band Greg Shaw signed to Bomp, and while it’s hard not to be sentimental about such things Laugh In The Dark really is a great record and completely characteristic of the music Shaw built his life around. In that year end hyper-analytical rush all music geeks with the privilege of having a “top list” published go through, I’ve spun this countless times to try and rank it. I keep coming around to realizing that comparing this hook for hook with another album isn’t really fair, this relies on a psychedelic groove as much as it does any fuzzed out stomping punk qualities. I always end up finishing the record without any tangible impression in hand, but I’ll be damned if I’m not spinning it again soon afterwards.
