Secret insider Punknews plans

Adam: Adam’s been listening to Bikini Kill all morning. He’s so in touch with the kids these days.
Brian: clearly
Adam: I’m the voice of a generation right here.
Brian: maybe we can set up a new feature
Brian: Adam and the Kids
Brian: every post of it is you saying “Fuck ‘em.”
Adam: Maybe “What’s cool with the Kids by Adam” and I just recommend whatever shit I rightfully assume is better than what they’re listening to
Adam: because they’re stupid.

Naw… I love the eponymous “kids,” so bright eyed and bushy tailed with their half-moon emo hair swoops. Darlings each and every one of them. To help the kids out Punknews is streaming a bunch of fantastic songs that they’ll care nothing about.

We’ve got music up from two wonderful Ottawa-based punk rock bands, the Million Dollar Marxists and the The Riptides. The former I’m quite familiar with and I’ve followed for a while. They’re the best post-New Bomb Turks punk rock’n'roll act in the land, although their new records a shade on the grim side. While more complex than their earlier stuff there’s something darker brooding in the center. The Riptides are the opposite, and deliver a batch of Queers / Screeching Weasel flavoured Ramones-core that’s too fun to be derivative.

We’ve also been streaming the new full length from Sudbury’s Statues, a great power-pop trio that hangs with former Frenetics frontman Malcolm Bauld. That should be a solid enough endorsement for anyone, but stream the track “Shipping News” if you need further convincing.

If this looks like some secret plot to raise the overall Punknews Cancon quota, you’d be right. Nevermind the fact that we’ve spotlighted the Moncton’s Varsity Weirdos and Saskatoon’s Ultimate Power Duo lately. Shh.
